Model United Nations(MUN) is an educational simulation and/or academic activity in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations.
The theme for the Salesian Model United Nations (SMUN) being Sustainable Development Goals-4 (SDG4). SDG-4 is titled as “Ensure Inclusive and Equitable Quality Education and promotes life-long learning opportunities for all” The reason for choosing the theme is to highlight the importance of educating the heart and mind simultaneously.
SMUN is the second chapter of MUN in Salesian and is an inter-institution conference, after a successful first intra-college conference in 2021. SMUN 2022 consists of a adept Secretariat with an experience of over 100 MUNs.
Salesian Model United Nations conference, consists of participants known as delegates, placed in different committees and assigned countries or organizations or political figures, where they represent members of that body. They are presented with their assignments in advance, along with a topic or topics that will be the Agenda for the committee discussion. Delegates conduct research before conferences and formulate positions that they will then debate with their fellow delegates in the committee, staying true to the actual position of the member/country they represent. At the end of the conference a resolution or a solution to the topic is concluded and the best-performing delegates in each committee, as well as delegations, are recognized with awards.
VISION
SMUN believes in democratising the availability of the Model United Nations experience to engage all participants in the collaborative process of problem-solving and consensus-building.
It tends to inculcate in the participants, the zeal to study the Sustainable Development Goals and the problems therein.
MISSION
SMUN aims to foster leadership and positive engagement through the discussion and debate of the world’s most pressing problems.
It aims at providing a platform to share information and acts as a source of inspiration.
Salesian College presents to you its second chapter of SMUN which revolves around the theme of SDG 4 titled “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”.
This theme especially drew our attention, as we the youth have the power to bring huge differences if we educate our hearts and minds simultaneously in the right amount. Our definition of education is not restricted merely to the curriculum we follow in schools and colleges but a wholesome development of a person, continuous learning exposure lifelong paving the way for the growth that every individual is entitled to receive. We believe that the right education provides one with wisdom, wisdom leads to prosperity and prosperity has the power to change the world.
As enthusiastic MUNers, we have the nerve to analyse situations with a whole new perspective and place the right argument with supreme diplomacy for the greater good. What is a meaningful life if not a continuous learning tool, what is the platform of MUN if not a medium to create changes and what is the theme of the second chapter of SMUN if not a prism to view the different spectrum of the world with a fresh approach?
