The Department of Social Work in Salesian College Siliguri was established in the year 2019. The Department is committed to the pursuit of social work campaigns to improve the quality of life of the downtrodden. The Department looks for individuals who inherently possess a commitment to bring about positive change in society and provides them with the right amount of training and orientation to fulfill their deeds in the most effective manner. The academic program is rigorous so as to enable students with an appropriate attitude and knowledge to effectively address social problems in the world. An innovative blend of theory, fieldwork and research is designed to provide the students with a variety of skills to enable them to be active social workers, to set up and manage social work organizations of their own or to find employment with various national and international agencies.

Our vision is to envision a society that upholds the values of equality, diversity, inclusiveness, democracy and concern for the welfare of the society, strengthening human relationships and promoting social justice, following in the footsteps of our patron, Don Bosco, who in his life advocated and upheld the rights of the marginalized youth. We envisage a harmonious society which promotes development and progress with the help of qualified mentors to assist the empowerment of individuals, groups and the society at large, contributing to nation building.

Our mission is to make collective and quality learning to the students accessible to students, contributing to the development and dissemination of social work knowledge and skills, thereby moulding the students into effective, ethical and professional social workers. We aim to work as a department, to become catalysts encouraging inter-disciplinary collaborations within the college to address social injustices collectively as one unit. Our endeavour is to sensitize the youth of today about social equity through constructive programmes both in the field and campus. We ultimately aim to herald the message of social justice and progress in the society by bringing out students equipped with leadership skills and become the pioneer institution by shifting paradigms in unprecedented times.

The vision of the department is to envision a society that upholds the values of equality, diversity, inclusiveness, democracy and concern for the welfare of the society, strengthening human relationships and promoting social justice.
