Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication and Journalism is a four-year degree programme with the possibility of completing the fourth year with research if a particular student secures 75% CGPA in the previous exams.

After completion of the programme, a student will be able to:

 

 

Knowledge

PO01: Grasp the theories of  Mass Communication and Journalism.
PO02: Acquaint him/herself with the history of the Mass Media, its evolution and impact on the society.
PO03: Relate his/her understanding of different types of communication process in various classroom and societal experience.
PO04: Gain awareness about the various contemporary issues in Mass Media.

 

 

 

Skills

PO05: Demonstrate his/her communication skills through paper presentation on subject as well as various interdisciplinary themes.
PO06: Construct a deeper understanding of the subject and create media content like dummy newspaper, print advertisement, poster, radio jiggles, Photo essay, etc.
PO07:Integrate and apply ICT in learning process
PO08:Acquaint him/herself with the diverse current problems and issues related to mass media like convergence of media, explosion of information, future of print journalism, impact of media on culture, evolution of media, efficient use of media for development, and understanding international relations.

 

 

Competence

PO09: Explore new ideas and thoughts through the application of theoretical knowledge of media studies and analysis of theories and models of mass media.
PO10: Initiate self-sufficiency, sincerity, independent thinking as education is a lifelong process for empowering the student to face all challenges in his/her future endeavours.
PO11: Develop concern for the society, nation as well as promote the feeling of internationalism by comparing our media system with that of other developed countries.

Instructions

* Scanned copies of the class 10, 11/12 marks card should be uploaded while filling up the application.

* If class 12 marks are not available at the time of applying, then marks of any test conducted during class 11 or Pre-board, can be uploaded.

* The office of admissions will verify the scorecards.

* Applications with no scorecards or vague scanned copies will be rejected and termed as Not Eligible.

The Department of Mass Communication & Journalism, Salesian College, Siliguri Campus was established in the year 2014. Since its inception, the department has set high academic standards in its curriculum and has continuously contributed to the emerging demands of the media industry by nurturing the aspiring students with the contemporary media skills. The department provides latest infrastructural facilities and equipments along with strong academic support for the holistic development of the students.

The B.A. in Mass Communication & Journalism programme strives to offer an in-depth understanding of Media industry’s activities and equip students with the necessary knowledge and expertise required to become an expert media professional, ready to take on the challenges of the industry. It also attempts to strengthen the fundamental concepts of media which encompasses the ethics and social responsibility of the media personnel in upholding the fabric of the contemporary society, followed by industry required skill building through a balanced mix of theory and practical classes, thereby harnessing the skills in key domain areas of media including print media, broadcast media, public relations, advertising, films and digital media.
