Bachelor of Arts/Science in Psychology Honours/Research is a four-year degree program with the possibility of completing the fourth year with research if a particular student secures a 75% CGPA in the previous exams.

After the completion of the programme, a student will be able to:

 

 

 

 

 

Knowledge

PSO1: Develop a clear idea about the subject Psychology, its nature, scope, and aim of learning Psychology.
PSO2: Gather knowledge about General Psychology, theories, and their implication in the field of behavioral science practice.
PSO3: Develop knowledge about the detailed history of Psychology in Indian and international contexts.
PSO3: Develop knowledge about the detailed history of Psychoanalytic, behavioral, and humanistic schools of Psychology.
PSO4: Internalize the basics of psychology, the role of perception, memory, learning, language, emotions, and thinking in behavior functioning in normal and abnormal ways.
PSO5: Develop knowledge about basics of brain, neurology, and its role in cognitive functioning and behavior modification.
PSO6: Develop the concept of guidance and counseling, and various types of psychotherapy.
PSO7: Develop the concept of psychological research, quantitative and qualitative, and statistics, descriptive and inferential, in conducting psychological data analysis and theoretical formulations.

 

 

 

 

 

Skills

PSO1: Develop a clear idea about the subject psychology, the physiological and mental functions in behavior and its changes.
PSO2: Execute the educational implications of different theories of psychology.
PSO3: Construct assessment and diagnostic skills using laboratory experiments for diagnostic, clinical, and non-clinical services.
PSO4: Develop an understanding of Artificial Intelligence and the role of technology in tele-counseling and telepsychological services.
PSO5: Advocate the importance of counseling and psychotherapy in behavior modification and psychological treatment services.
PSO6: Develop the skill of communication skills both vocal, non-verbal, and e-learning-related.
PSO7: Exhibit excellent communication skills, life skills education, peace, and value education.

 

 

 

 

 

Competence

PSO1: Demonstrate competencies required for counseling, psychotherapy, and other behavior modification techniques and treatments.
PSO2: Analyze the detailed history of Psychology in different approaches and schools of philosophy and learn wellness consultation with a positive psychological approach.
PSO3: Systematize the concepts of adjustment, maladjustment, and the various interpretations of psychological tests.
PSO4: Correlate various qualitative and quantitative data for psychological research.
PSO5: Envision a society where people from all walks of life enjoy equal and equitable rights and opportunities.
PSO6: Compute statistical analysis in the field of psychological research.
PSO7: Analyze the contemporary trends in psychology.

Instructions

* Scanned copies of the class 10, 11/12 marks card should be uploaded while filling up the application.

* If class 12 marks are not available at the time of applying, then marks of any test conducted during class 11 or Pre-board, can be uploaded.

* The office of admissions will verify the scorecards.

* Applications with no scorecards or vague scanned copies will be rejected and termed as Not Eligible.

This department, started in the year 2012, is the pilot department even in the University of North Bengal where the College is affiliated. The department offers both honours and  elective in the subject. The department facilitates peer counselling in the campus. 

To prepare competent psychologists who would excel in knowledge, orientation and practice of psychology, with high ethical standards and social relevance.

To function as professional and socially conscious psychologists whocan achieve excellence in knowledge generation, serve the society by making innovative contribution in the field of mental health and in the process of social change”.

The department of psychology, Salesian college Siliguri campus being the only college to offer psychology honours course in the entire north Bengal region upholds the mission to address and understand various psychological and psychosocial phenomenon pertaining to this region and to produce effective and sensible human resources in the field psychology

Keeping in record with the disciplinary advances the Department (course) would address learning about psychological functioning at individual and social levels in an inclusive manner.
