Siliguri: The Department of Geography hosted a One-Day Student Seminar on “Geography, Environment and Society: Interlinkages and Issues” on 24 February 2026 at JPM Hall. The seminar provided a platform for students to present research, sharpen academic skills, and explore the connections between geographical processes, environmental challenges, and societal concerns.
The session was chaired by Dr. Anukta Goirala, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department, Salesian College (Autonomous), Siliguri, who was felicitated at the outset.
Seven students from the IV and VI semesters presented research papers that offered fresh insights into contemporary geographical issues. Each presentation was followed by interactive discussions, where faculty and peers engaged with the topics and posed thought-provoking questions. Dr. Goirala provided constructive feedback, encouraging students to refine their academic and research pursuits.
The seminar fostered critical thinking, collaborative learning, and confidence in public speaking. It also highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary perspectives in understanding geography’s role in addressing environmental and societal challenges.
The event concluded with an inspiring address by the resource person Dr. Anukta Goirala and a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Srashta Chowdhury, Assistant Professor, Department of Geography. END
