Siliguri: A student-led Bengali short film, The Wait, has brought laurels to its creators by winning the Best Indian Film Award at the West Bengal Short Film Festival. The 10-minute film has also earned official selection at the International Kolkata Short Film Festival, marking a strong start to its festival journey.
The Wait narrates the emotional story of Arka, a partially deaf boy with intellectual and speech disabilities, and his cousin Adrito, a B.Tech student torn between personal ambitions and sudden familial responsibility after a tragic loss. The film has been widely appreciated for its sensitive storytelling and emotional depth.
A key creative contributor to the project is Suvanka Palit, a sixth-semester student of the English Department at Salesian College, Siliguri, who served as the film’s Director of Photography and Editor. The success of The Wait highlights the growing impact of student filmmakers and the promise of regional cinema on national platforms.
