Distinguished Speakers, Cultural Highlights, and Commitment to Holistic Education Mark the Event
Siliguri, July 22, 2024 – Salesian College (Autonomous) in Siliguri kicked off its academic year 2024-2025 with a grand inauguration ceremony at Kilian Arcade. The event, marked by enthusiastic participation from first-year students and faculty members, featured speeches by distinguished guests, cultural performances, and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the dispelling of ignorance and the illumination of knowledge. The ceremony underscored the college’s commitment to educational excellence and holistic development.
The ceremony began with a warm welcome note from the Emcee, setting a positive and welcoming tone for the day’s proceedings. The ceremonial lighting of the lamp was conducted by a distinguished panel of guests: Dr. Nupur Das, Principal Secretary of the Undergraduate Council at the University of North Bengal and Guest of Honour; Fr (Dr) Babu Joseph, Principal of Salesian College; Fr (Dr) Tomy Augustine, Rector and Controller of Examinations; and a student representative.
Following the lighting of the lamp, Fr (Dr) Tomy Augustine led an invocation, offering prayers and blessings for the academic year ahead. His invocation underscored the spiritual foundation of Salesian education, blending moral values with academic pursuits.
The felicitation of the guests followed, with Dr. Nupur Das receiving a token of appreciation, reflecting the college’s respect and gratitude for her presence and contributions to academia. The absence of the initially planned Chief Guest, Dr. Om Prakash Mishra, was acknowledged but did not dampen the spirit of the event.
Fr (Dr) Babu Joseph then delivered the welcome address and opening remarks, speaking passionately about the college’s mission to foster intellectual growth, holistic development, and moral integrity. He highlighted the institution’s commitment to producing well-rounded individuals equipped to contribute positively to society. His speech emphasized the importance of a balanced education that integrates academic excellence with ethical values, resonating deeply with both students and faculty.
Dr. Nupur Das delivered her keynote address, focusing on the transformative power of undergraduate education and its crucial role in shaping future leaders. Dr. Das emphasized the importance of a robust academic foundation, ethical values, and a commitment to lifelong learning. She encouraged students to seize the opportunities provided by the college and to strive for excellence in their academic and personal endeavors. Her inspiring words set a high aspirational benchmark for the year ahead.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Sr. Pascalina Lepcha, Assistant Professor in the Department of English. She expressed heartfelt gratitude to the dignitaries, faculty, students, and all those who contributed to the successful organization of the event. Sr. Lepcha’s acknowledgments highlighted the collective effort and dedication involved in orchestrating such a significant occasion, ensuring its success.
The event was then enlivened by a captivating performance from the Department of Music. The faculty and students showcased their musical talents, adding a vibrant cultural dimension to the ceremony. Their harmonious performance was a testament to the college’s encouragement of extracurricular activities and the nurturing of diverse talents alongside academic achievements.
The inauguration concluded with the National Anthem.
